On March 11th, 1965, A B-57 Bomber was shot down in South Vietnam; Lt. Col. Richard D. Smith was listed as “Missing in Action”. In 1994, his remains were recovered, not far from the crash site.
Richard Smith is my father and I was only 4-years old when he disappeared. My Mother, along with my grandmother Pat, raised my bother, sister and I. I’m very lucky to have the parents and grandparents I have. The sacrifices that my father made, to protect his family and country, were equal to those made by my mother. Here are a few photos of my father, including one of him with his plane and the one on the right; his last known photo

Hi, My name is Cathy and I just wanted to let you know that I wore during the 60’s/70’s and on and off over the years a POW/MIA bracelet with your father’s name on it. I’m am so sorry for your loss and wish to offer you this bracelet as a memorial to your father. I only found in 2005 that his death was confirmed, having given his life to protect our country. If you wish to have the bracelet, you can contact me at cldreif330@alltel.net. It has meant a lot to me but I know it will mean much more to you.
Many Blessings to you and your family!

Hi my name is Kelly, I came upon your blog while looking for some information on your father. I also have his POW/MIA bracelet that I proudly wore and I have often thought of him through the years. If you would like his bracelet returned, please contact me and I will return it to your family,

I was a childhood friend of your father and his sister Dot. Just ran across their school pictures while looking for another long-ago friend. I moved away from Augusta long ago, but knew Dick was MIA. Only tonight did I learn by googling around that partial remains were found and buried in Wichita.

Thank you for your comment Janice. I always share comment from this and other various websites with my Mother (Sally Smith). Rusty
